(ORANGE COUNTY, Calif.) – Over 465 public sector employees of the County of Orange, represented by Teamsters Local 952, have initiated a strike due to the county's failure to provide a satisfactory contract. The strike, classified as an unfair labor practice (ULP), marks a significant disruption in county operations.

During the meeting of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the striking members of Local 952 held a news conference. Their primary focus was to communicate the reasons for the strike, the subsequent service disruptions, and the county's persistent failure to meet the workers' demands.

“We have been met with months of delays and a complete disregard for the workers who keep Orange County running,” stated Eric Jimenez, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 952. “The County has forced our members to walk off the job to fight for the respect and fair contract they deserve. We cannot allow the erosion of our public services because the county refuses to invest in the workers who provide them. Our members are united and will not back down until a fair contract has been secured.”

The employees involved in the walkout are essential to operations in OC Public Works, OC Waste and Recycling, and other community resources. The strike is anticipated to slow down maintenance of roads and flood channels, operations at landfills, park and beach maintenance, repairs on county vehicles including those for first responders, and other vital services relied upon by over three million residents of Orange County.

The dispute arises after several months of what the union alleges are bad faith negotiations, with formal charges filed against the county. Tensions were further heightened when the Orange County Board of Supervisors granted themselves a 25 percent salary increase.

Teamsters Local 952 advocates for 9,500 workers across Orange County, California. Additional information can be found at their official website teamsters952.org.
