Kicking off Infrastructure Week, Pennsylvania American Water has announced its 2024 tank infrastructure investment plan. The company will rehabilitate 10 water storage tanks and build four new ones to enhance water quality and service.
The company's tank rehabilitation program includes inspecting, sandblasting, and repainting storage tanks. These measures prolong tanks' lifetimes, protect water quality, and will cost approximately $28.3 million.
“Storage tanks are a vital component of our distribution system infrastructure,” says Bruce Aiton, Pennsylvania American Water's Vice President of Engineering. “Tanks provide system capacity to customers, along with adequate pressure and fire protection. Maintaining and rehabilitating tanks is more cost-efficient than replacing them.”
The company will rehabilitate and repaint storage tanks in several municipalities this year. These upgrades will involve stripping the original paint and applying a new coating to prevent steel corrosion, thereby improving water quality.
Meanwhile, the construction of four new ground storage tanks will provide additional water storage capacity, ensuring dependable water service to meet customer demand and offer fire protection. The locations of these new tanks are provided in the table below.
Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is Pennsylvania's largest regulated water utility. It delivers high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to roughly 2.3 million people.
