The Facts -

  • UAW members will rally in Belvidere, IL to urge Stellantis to reopen Belvidere Assembly.
  • Grievances were filed against Stellantis for not honoring commitments from 2023 negotiations.
  • UAW leaders argue this fight is essential for protecting American jobs and workers' dignity.

Belvidere, IL – On Thursday, August 22nd, UAW members and leaders, including UAW President Shawn Fain, Region 4 Director Brandon Campbell, and Local 1268 President Matt Frantzen, will rally in Belvidere, Illinois to demand Stellantis fulfill its promise to reopen Belvidere Assembly and invest in jobs.

On Monday, UAW locals representing tens of thousands of Stellantis workers filed grievances over the company's failure to Keep the Promise made in 2023 contract negotiations. If unresolved, the union may authorize a strike.

“This isn’t just a local or union fight,” said UAW Region 4 Director Brandon Campbell. “This is about protecting American jobs. If we don’t Stand Up now, when will we?”

“The victories in last year’s Stand Up Strike at the Big Three were binding commitments,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. “We intend to enforce that contract fully.”

“Stellantis cites ‘market conditions’ to break promises to Belvidere and autoworkers while increasing CEO pay by 56%,” Fain continued. “Carlos Tavares is telling workers, ‘Market conditions for thee, but not for me.’”

“They aim to ‘delay’ reopening Belvidere Assembly past our contract expiration to avoid fulfilling their pledges. This hurts autoworkers and their families. If they backtrack here, what else will they reneg on? We’re ready to take action to ensure Stellantis keeps its promise to invest in Belvidere and the American autoworker.”
