DOE Approves $2.26 Billion Loan for Thacker Pass Lithium Project
Washington, D.C. – October 28, 2024 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey shared a statement about the Department of Energy's substantial $2.26 billion loan to Lithium Americas for their Thacker Pass lithium project in northern Nevada.
"We are thrilled about the Department of Energy's $2.26 billion loan to Lithium Americas for Thacker Pass," said McGarvey. This investment will create hundreds of jobs for Building Trades members through a project labor agreement. Collaborating with Bechtel and General Motors, we aim to enhance the U.S. battery supply chain by utilizing critical minerals. This initiative promises a highly skilled, domestic, union workforce."
