Zuckerman Condemns Brewery Firm for Prolonged Texas Strike

Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman and Teamsters members from various U.S. regions urge Molson Coors to finalize a fair contract and resolve the Fort Worth, Texas, strike at the company's Annual General Meeting today in Golden, Colo.

"Molson Coors boasts about its 'year of exceptional growth,' but the workers are the ones who contribute to this success!” Zuckerman emphasized. He reiterated the demand for a fair deal for 420 Texas-based Teamsters.

Local 997 members went on strike on February 17 as negotiations with Molson Coors stalled. The workers are asking for pay increases, enhanced retirement benefits, and retention of their current Teamsters health care.

"Molson Coors' success is due to its frontline workers. In recent years, the disparity between CEO and worker pay has ballooned to the detriment of the hardworking Teamsters," commented Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference.

While on strike, Molson Coors CEO Gavin D. Hattersley has earned $2.9 million. Since the last contract, the Coors family's dividends have exceeded $100 million. The company's worker offer is a mere 99 cents an hour increase.

Teamsters leaders and members staged a rally outside the Golden facility ahead of AGM, condemning Molson Coors' poor labor relations and demanding immediate negotiations.

"Molson Coors' actions show their true values," commented Richard “Kiki” Gonzales, a 15-year Molson Coors employee in Fort Worth. "This company values profits over Texas workers' welfare. We deserve respect and a fair contract that reflects our worth. Until then, we'll hold the strike line round the clock!”
