Sanitation Mechanics in West Chicago Join Teamsters Local 673
In a significant move for labor organization, mechanics at Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS) in West Chicago, Illinois, have successfully joined Teamsters Local 673. This development marks a continued trend of unionization within the company since the onset of 2025.
Earlier this year, over 50 drivers and heavy equipment operators across Arkansas and Illinois took similar steps to become part of the Teamsters, illustrating a growing momentum among LRS employees to secure strong labor protections.
Timothy Custer, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 673, expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, stating, “It’s an honor to welcome these new Teamsters to our local. Sanitation workers are absolutely critical to our communities. Now that these mechanics are Teamsters, we can work to get them a contract that guarantees they are treated with fairness and respect for years to come.”
These mechanics are pivotal in maintaining LRS's equipment, ensuring that collection drivers can effectively operate their routes, contributing to community health and safety.
Victor Mineros, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division and Teamsters Western Region International Vice President, remarked on the growing unionization efforts, noting, “There is a growing movement among LRS workers to secure the strong protection that comes with being a Teamster. We look forward to continuing to grow our ranks at the company all across the country.”
Teamsters Local 673 is known for representing thousands of workers from various industries throughout the Chicagoland area. For more details, visit TeamstersLocal673.com.
