Kaiser Workers Rally in San Diego as Strike Approaches Six Months

Kaiser Permanente Strike Garners Broad Support at San Diego Rally

In San Diego, a significant display of solidarity unfolded as over 120 individuals, comprising Kaiser patients, elected officials, and union allies from OPEIU, UNAC, CWA, and the Inland Empire Labor Council, gathered for a rally and protest. The event drew attention from several media outlets, such as FOX-5, ABC-10, San Diego Union Tribune, Univision, and Courthouse News.

During the event, strikers engaged directly with a Kaiser HR executive, presenting a large letter from the San Diego Labor Council urging a resolution to the ongoing strike. The interaction was captured by TV cameras as it unfolded.

Participants traveled from regions such as Orange County and the Inland Empire to join the San Diego initiative. Leadership in chants and motivation was provided by a steward from the Antelope Valley.

The momentum is expected to carry forward with planned actions in Pasadena and Bakersfield. Those interested in participating can register via the picket shift sign-up form.

In other activities, about 15 striking workers attended services at Greg Adams’ church on Sunday, receiving a warm welcome from both clergy members and congregants.

Survey Highlights Strong Commitment to Core Issues

The results of a Commitment Survey, conducted post-mediation, reveal that 79% of workers in the Psych-Social bargaining unit participated. Of those, 85% remain firm in their commitment to key issues: restoring pensions, securing fair raises to counteract years without cost-of-living adjustments, and ensuring sufficient Patient Management Time. A follow-up survey will be sent to participants who expressed a change in their stance on these issues.
