Ongoing Mediation Efforts at Kaiser Permanente

Mediation between the parties involved in the Kaiser Permanente dispute extended late into the night on Thursday and Friday. The discussions are set to continue on Saturday morning, with updates to be provided as available.

Acknowledgment at Los Angeles City Hall

On a significant day for strikers, a special recognition was awarded at Los Angeles City Hall. A group of strikers was honored with a May Day Award, presented by Councilmembers Hugo Soto-Martinez and Eunisses Hernandez. This event marked a notable moment in the ongoing labor action.

Upcoming Assembly Health Committee Hearing

Scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., the Assembly Health Committee is set to hold an informational hearing concerning Kaiser’s behavioral health services. Key figures such as Kaiser therapist Kassaundra Gutierrez-Thompson, Kaiser patient and psychologist Milton Brown, Lauren Finke of the Kennedy Forum, and NUHW President Sophia Mendoza will provide testimony. The Department of Managed Health Care will also be represented. Notably, Kaiser has opted not to participate in the hearing.

Over three dozen Kaiser patients have already submitted written testimonies to the committee, highlighting ongoing challenges Kaiser faces in meeting legal and clinical standards in behavioral health care, despite previous fines and citations.

Watch the hearing live on Tuesday, May 6, starting at 1:30 p.m.
