(GOLDSBORO, N.C.) – In a significant move for labor organization, drivers from Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) in Goldsboro, N.C. have elected to align with Teamsters Local 391. This development coincides with ongoing contract discussions affecting 2,000 Teamsters nationwide who are part of the dairy co-operative.

Despite confronting a vigorous anti-union stance from the company, the drivers secured their union membership. DFA representatives engaged in a last-minute campaign of misinformation and intimidation efforts shortly before the election.

Michael McGaha, President of Teamsters Local 391, remarked, “DFA pulled out all the stops to prevent just 11 drivers from joining the Teamsters — that shows just how scared they are of the Teamsters. We couldn’t be prouder to welcome our new members into our union.”

This victory is pivotal as Teamsters are pressing for improved terms in national contract talks. The union demands include better pay, safeguards against job automation, and a unified contract expiration date for all DFA Teamsters.

In a coordinated effort last week, DFA Teamsters nationwide warned of possible strikes should the company not agree to fair contract terms. DFA stands as the largest dairy co-operative in North America.

Longtime DFA driver Bryan Cavanagh, with 42 years of service, declared, “By joining the powerful Teamsters Union, we’ll finally have our wages, benefits, and working conditions protected by a strong contract. We didn’t fall for DFA’s tricks because we were united in this fight. Now we are ready to take our fight to the bargaining table to address years of workplace concerns.”

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, represents over 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For more details, visit Teamster.org. Stay updated via X at @Teamsters and on Facebook.
