AFSCME Leadership Reelected

LOS ANGELES – AFSCME, the nation’s leading public service union, has reelected its top leaders for another four-year term.

Delegates unanimously voted for President Lee Saunders and Secretary-Treasurer Elissa McBride during the 46th International Convention.

“I am grateful that AFSCME members trust me to lead our great union,” said Saunders, first elected in June 2012. “I am proud of our work in organizing, activism, lobbying, and political action,” he added. Saunders started his AFSCME journey in 1978 as a labor economist.

Saunders emphasized his readiness to lead AFSCME members in upcoming battles, including the high-stakes presidential election. “I’m excited to work with all 1.4 million AFSCME members to seize opportunities before us,” he said.

McBride, who joined AFSCME as the director of education and leadership training in 2001 and became secretary-treasurer in 2017, expressed her gratitude. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your secretary-treasurer and for the solidarity we show each other every day,” McBride stated. “I’m committed to leading our union with integrity and passion.
