Workers Approve First Contract at Recology

TL/DR -

Members of Teamsters Local 150 have successfully ratified their first collective bargaining agreement with Recology, marking a victory after a nearly two-year campaign. The four-year contract, which covers customer service representatives, includes an immediate 14% wage boost, a 38% cumulative wage increase, enhanced retirement benefits, and improved seniority rights. Throughout the negotiation process, Recology management tried to slow-roll contract talks and attempted to decertify the union under false pretenses.

Teamsters Members Achieve Pay Raise Victory Despite Corporate Obstacles

Teamsters Local 150 members have successfully ratified their first collective agreement after a nearly two-year campaign. The agreement, which covers customer service representatives, guarantees a 14 percent immediate pay raise and 38 percent overall wage increase over the contract's four-year term. Additionally, it provides enhanced retirement benefits and seniority rights.

Ever since workers joined the Teamsters in 2022, Recology management has used every tactic to delay contract negotiations and undermine the union. They staged two failed attempts to decertify the union under false pretenses.

“Despite the company's attempts to deter them, these workers remained focused,” says Dale Wentz, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 150. "The company tried its best to prevent the workers from securing their first contract, but they held firm."

Teamsters represent over 1,800 Recology workers nationwide, with Local 150 members being the first customer service representatives to join the union.

“These workers demonstrated perseverance,” says Chuck Stiles, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. "In spite of the company's efforts, Local 150 members secured a strong first contract."
