UAW GM Announces Record Profit Sharing and Raises for Sanitation Workers

UAW GM Workers to Receive Record Profit-Sharing Bonuses

In a promising start to 2025, General Motors (GM) has announced that eligible workers will receive a record profit-sharing bonus of $14,500, set to be distributed on February 28. This development highlights the exceptional performance of the workforce, credited for their contribution to the company's profitability.

Profit-Sharing Eligibility Expanded to Temporary Workers

Significant changes have been made regarding profit-sharing eligibility under the 2023 collective bargaining agreement. Now, for the first time, both full-time and part-time temporary workers are included in the profit-sharing plan. This marks a historic expansion of benefits to temporary workers across the Big Three automakers.

Advancements for GM Sanitation Workers

Progress continues for GM's sanitation workforce as the United Auto Workers (UAW) GM Department finalizes a contract with Hydrochem, the last of ten sanitation companies servicing GM sites. This agreement sets a new wage floor, increasing from under $18 per hour to over $26 per hour. By the conclusion of the contract, some sanitation workers could earn upwards of $40 an hour. This achievement represents a significant stride toward economic justice for these workers.

Special Attrition Program Sees Second Successful Round

January also marked the successful completion of the second round of the Special Attrition Program (SAP), offering retirement benefits to participating members. This program is a testament to the benefits won through the 2023 Stand Up Strike, where members stood on picket lines for six weeks. It's noteworthy that another SAP round isn't expected until 2026.

Maintaining Job Security Amidst Industry Changes

With changing federal policies and potential tariff impacts, job security remains a top priority for the UAW GM Department. The 2023 agreement includes commitments from GM to produce electric vehicles at various facilities, including the temporarily closed Fairfax Assembly plant. The department is actively engaging with GM to understand future plans for this and other facilities, ensuring continued enforcement of existing contracts.
