Nurses at Dignity Health in CA, NV approve new 4-year contract

Nurses Secure New Contract with Enhanced Protections at Dignity Health Facilities

Registered nurses at CommonSpirit/Dignity Health facilities in California and Nevada have successfully ratified a new four-year contract. The California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee (CNA/NNOC), an affiliate of National Nurses United, announced the agreement, which underscores the significant efforts and vital roles of their members. This decision was finalized following a vote concluded on June 5.

Phil Penn, a registered nurse working in the intensive care unit at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, “With this critical milestone achieved, we can now turn our collective focus to the broader social issues that affect our communities — including the urgent need for humane immigration reform, protecting health care from further cuts, and opposing harmful federal reductions that threaten essential public services.”

Agreement Highlights

  • Preservation of all current patient care and workplace protections.
  • Implementation of wage increases, with additional adjustments in specific regions.
  • Continued pension and retiree health benefits.
  • No concessions or reductions in benefits.

This newly ratified contract will be in effect from June 30, 2025, through June 30, 2029.

Kathy Dennis, a registered nurse from the float pool at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California, highlighted the impact of the agreement: “These competitive gains will help us recruit new RNs and retain experienced nurses, which is essential to ensuring patient safety.”

Sandy Reding, an RN in the operating room at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and a president of CNA/NNOC, remarked on the broader implications: “Our commitment to justice extends beyond the bedside. With a contract now in place, we can refocus on what nurses do best — advocating for our patients and our communities.”

The CNA/NNOC represents over 13,500 registered nurses across 27 CommonSpirit/Dignity Health facilities in California and Nevada.

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is recognized as the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association for registered nurses nationwide, boasting 100,000 members in more than 200 facilities throughout California and nearly 225,000 RNs across the country.
