Severe Weather Forces Postponement of Member Mobilization Institute
Severe weather conditions in Northern Michigan have led to the postponement of the highly anticipated Member Mobilization Institute, which was set to host over 225 registered delegates at Black Lake.
Flooding has become a pressing concern in the region, affecting many areas, including the grounds of the Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center, although the center itself remains operational.
Efforts have been underway to monitor the evolving weather conditions throughout the week. Despite the dedicated work of the center’s staff, uncertainties remain, particularly with a nearby dam in Cheboygan, Michigan, which is under strain. Current circumstances have made it impossible to predict if the situation will stabilize or deteriorate in the coming days.
Faced with these challenging conditions, the decision has been made to postpone the Member Mobilization Institute. This step, though difficult, prioritizes the safety of delegates and staff, in line with recommendations from the UAW Health and Safety Department and other advisors.
Delegates are thanked for their patience, and upcoming updates will be communicated promptly. Queries regarding union leave should be directed to local union representatives. Meanwhile, Black Lake staff are in the process of cancelling all flights booked via the TSI link. For additional assistance, delegates can reach out via education@uaw.net.
It is hoped that this situation will lead to a postponement rather than a cancellation. Further details will be provided as soon as possible.
The union extends thoughts to the community in Northern Michigan during this challenging period.
