AFL-CIO Highlights Union Voter Mobilization for Harris-Walz Campaign

(Washington, D.C.)—In a recent call with reporters, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and labor leaders highlighted the union voters' support for the Harris-Walz ticket. They outlined strategies to mobilize during the campaign's final weeks, aiming to contact 5 million union voters in battleground states by Election Day.

Shuler shared a digital ad on overtime pay aimed at millions of battleground voters through digital platforms. The ad features union members speaking to peers, echoing the conversations at worksites and on calls as part of the AFL-CIO's political efforts.

“The road to the White House goes through our union halls,” stated Liz Shuler, AFL-CIO President. “Elon Musk can spend for Trump, but we have the infrastructure, message, and trust. We’ve contacted 1.6 million voters in-person and will reach 5 million more by Election Day, making a difference across the Blue Wall states and nationwide.”

AFSCME President Lee Saunders noted, “Our Solidarity Program is strong, engaging thousands of union members. We’re knocking on doors, mobilizing union households to vote for endorsed candidates. AFSCME is all in.”

Fred Redmond, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, emphasized, “Our infrastructure builds worker solidarity. We’re a trusted voice showing the importance of electing pro-worker candidates. Boosting turnout among people of color is critical, making union voters pivotal for Harris and Walz in Southern states.”

Wisconsin State AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale shared, “Our Wisconsin program is working. Volunteers are knocking doors, focusing on what matters to working people. We’re motivated by Harris’s vision and wary of the impact of another Trump presidency on workers.”

Rich Howell, VP of Pennsylvania State Council of Machinists, explained, “We emphasize the importance of being at the table. Since September, we’ve been knocking on doors, discussing crucial issues with members.”

UNITE HERE Culinary Union 226 member Irma Cuevas stated, “Our canvassing program targets 3.5 million doors in key states. I talk to union members daily, urging them to support pro-union leaders like Harris.”
