Community Rallies Against Offshoring As Conn-Selmer Plans Closure
Workers at a long-standing Ohio company are seeking local support against Conn-Selmer’s decision to move 150 union jobs to China, a closure that is set to occur by June 30.
On the first scheduled day of the most recent contract talks between Conn-Selmer and UAW Local 2359 members in January, employees were notified about the company's plans to shut down the Ohio plant. The facility, known for producing the last USA-made brass instruments, is relocating most of its Eastlake operations overseas.
This development follows a year after Conn-Selmer's owner, John Paulson, a billionaire advisor to President Trump, publicly supported tariffs intended to return factory jobs to the USA from China. During this time, his company was secretly constructing a facility in China to offshore these jobs.
The decision has put at risk decades of legacy and numerous union jobs in Ohio, as hedge fund billionaire Paulson prioritizes corporate profits over maintaining American manufacturing traditions.
The union members of UAW Local 2359 were told that the plant’s potential closure date is June 30, 2026. However, efforts are underway to preserve the Eastlake plant.
ADD YOUR NAME to urge The White House to act: President Trump can fulfill his promise to prevent the outsourcing of American jobs to China. This scenario presents a chance for the administration to support American labor.
