Mitsubishi Electric Expands in PA, Creating 200 Jobs with $6.7M Boost
The Commonwealth's $6.7 million investment in a company's expansion is expected to bring over $86 million into the economy and generate at least 200 new jobs at a new facility and testing lab in New Galilee.
Governor Shapiro's proposed 2025-26 budget includes measures to further enhance Pennsylvania's competitiveness, solidifying its standing as a leader in innovation, job creation, and economic development.

Expanding Economic Horizons in Pennsylvania
New Galilee, PA – In a significant move to boost Pennsylvania's economy, the Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, representing the Shapiro Administration, emphasized the state's financial commitment to Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. (MEPPI) during a groundbreaking event for their new facility in Beaver County. The $86 million investment by MEPPI is set to generate a minimum of 200 new jobs and retain 806 positions, while expanding the state's energy manufacturing sector.
Governor Josh Shapiro announced in October 2024 that the Commonwealth had allocated over $6.7 million to help the company grow in southwestern Pennsylvania. The new advanced switchgear facility, along with expanded power electronics facilities and testing labs, will enable MEPPI to shift from gas-insulated circuit breakers to vacuum breakers, addressing the increasing demand for electricity solutions.
Since Governor Shapiro took office, over $3.7 billion has been secured in private sector investments in Pennsylvania. His 2025-26 budget proposal seeks to further this momentum with over $160 million in new and expanded investments. These initiatives aim to strengthen Pennsylvania's competitiveness, bolster community infrastructure, and address housing challenges, while the "Lightning Plan" focuses on energy projects to reduce consumer costs and ensure national energy leadership.
Governor Shapiro stated, “We are working to make Pennsylvania the best state in the nation for businesses to grow and thrive. We’re getting stuff done here in the Commonwealth and will continue making bold, strategic investments to boost our economy and create good jobs for Pennsylvanians. MEPPI clearly recognizes that we’re open for business ― choosing the Commonwealth over Ohio for this new, state-of-the-art facility so that we can continue to lead on energy and manufacturing.”
MEPPI has been awarded a $4 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant and a $2.75 million Pennsylvania First grant, as part of the funding proposal from DCED.
“MEPPI’s expansion is a tremendous win for Beaver County and all of Pennsylvania,” remarked DCED Secretary Siger. “In the Commonwealth’s Economic Development Strategy, energy and manufacturing are two of the important industries we’re focusing on. Projects like MEPPI’s are further boosting these industries and helping grow our economy. Governor Shapiro and I remain focused on investing in more projects like this one to build a stronger Pennsylvania that works for everyone.”
As a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan, headquartered in Warrendale, PA, MEPPI caters to the North American power systems, data center, rail transportation, and large visual display markets with a range of electrical and electronic products, systems, solutions, and services.
Tricia Breeger, President and CEO of MEPPI, stated, “We’re not just breaking ground on a new facility; we are advancing Mitsubishi Electric’s investment in North America by engineering, and delivering, the infrastructure of the future. With this investment, MEPPI will be positioned to better serve our customers, provide new opportunities for employment, and contribute to our local community. The Advanced Switchgear Facility will be a place where ideas flourish, talent thrives, and innovation takes shape.”
Stefani Pashman, CEO of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, commented, “This groundbreaking signifies the importance of supporting the growth of our existing companies in this region. We appreciate that companies have a choice in their location decisions, and we’re honored the Pittsburgh region has earned MEPPI’s trust and confidence. The products to be made here, combined with the power electronics testing lab, are integral to our region’s energy strategy in solving grid reliability challenges, expanding energy generation and advancing industrial decarbonization.”
The Beaver County Board of Commissioners expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Beaver County is excited that Mitsubishi Electric Power Products has chosen Beaver County for its new Advanced Switchgear Facility. This project is another example of how Beaver County is coming together to attract and grow business to enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for the Beaver County community.”
Coordinated by Governor Shapiro’s BusinessPA team, this initiative is part of a broader effort to foster business growth in Pennsylvania. This team of economic development professionals is committed to providing the guidance and resources necessary for companies to achieve long-term success in the Commonwealth.
