On Friday, April 26 at 10pm ET, UAW President Shawn Fain and the UAW Daimler Truck North America Bargaining Committee will address live on Facebook to Daimler workers and allies. This event comes shortly before the contract for more than 7,000 UAW workers expires at midnight.

Negotiations for a new contract began earlier this month. Daimler workers, who operate in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia, seek an agreement that acknowledges record profits by Daimler Truck. They insist on fair wages and improved working conditions.

The employees that assemble Freightliner trucks, Western Star trucks, and Thomas Built Buses are battling with declining real wages and job security amid rising living costs and surging Daimler Truck profits. Over the last six years, Daimler's profits rose by 90% while workers’ purchasing power dropped by 13%.

The contract expiry follows the recent filing of four separate unfair labor practice charges by UAW with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against Daimler Truck. The charges highlight violations of workers’ rights and federal labor laws during ongoing contract talks.

This conflict is concurrent with the historic Stand Up Strike and closely follows the historic decision by Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga, TN, to join the UAW. It underscores the growing momentum of workers in the South. This is a fight for all workers to attain what they deserve.

Corporate profiteering is rampant across the country. Meanwhile, Daimler Truck workers, with their resounding 96% strike authorization vote, have expressed their readiness to fight for a fair contract.
