Ford Plant Nurses Join UAW, Strengthening Union Representation
The healthcare professionals employed at Ford facilities nationwide are now aligning with the United Auto Workers (UAW).
On October 20th, a unanimous vote by the three registered nurses at Chicago Stamping Plant confirmed their union membership through an NLRB election.
Just a day prior, a physician assistant at Kansas City Assembly opted in a self-determination election to join the nurses' bargaining unit, marking a first for a physician assistant under the Ford Salaried Agreement. Notably, plant nurses hold salaried positions as well.
This trend commenced in April when nurses at Ford's Chicago Assembly plant voted in favor of UAW membership.
“I’m excited to welcome the nurses at the Chicago Stamping Plant to the UAW,” Region 4 Director Lucas DeSpain expressed. “They work for Ford too, and they deserve the ability to protect their rights and interests just like their coworkers on the line do.”
UAW Vice President Laura Dickerson, Ford Department Director, stated, “The nurses, physician assistants, and other health care providers at Ford plants play a vital role in keeping our members healthy and safe at work. We are honored to have them join our union. We look forward to protecting their rights and ensuring they are also treated fairly by Ford.” She further encouraged clinic workers at Ford plants to consider union membership.
