Historic Push for Faster Labor Contracts Act Gains Momentum in U.S. House

(WASHINGTON) – A crucial threshold has been reached in the U.S. House of Representatives, with 218 signatures collected to push the Faster Labor Contracts Act forward. Initiated by Representative Donald Norcross of New Jersey's 1st District, the discharge petition will soon bring this significant labor legislation to a vote.

“Securing the support needed to move the Faster Labor Contracts Act forward is a significant milestone for millions of Teamsters and workers across this country,” remarked Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This is one of the most consequential labor bills to come before Congress in generations. It has the potential to hold Corporate America accountable for endlessly dragging out negotiations and denying workers the first union contracts they deserve. The Teamsters Union thanks every Democrat and Republican who signed the discharge petition and made the choice to stand with workers.”

The Teamsters organization extends gratitude to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York's 8th District, alongside Rep. Donald Norcross and Rep. Bobby Scott of Virginia's 3rd District, for their steadfast support. The backing of House Democrats is acknowledged for their role in championing the rights of workers nationwide.

Support for the bill also came from Republican Representatives, including Mike Lawler of New York's 17th District, Nick LaLota of New York's 1st District, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania's 1st District, Don Bacon of Nebraska's 2nd District, Max Miller of Ohio's 7th District, Riley Moore of West Virginia's 2nd District, and Rob Bresnahan of Pennsylvania's 8th District. These representatives have been pivotal in advancing the legislative process for this pivotal bill.

The proposed law aims to adjust the National Labor Relations Act by mandating that employers enter negotiations with newly unionized workers within a 10-day window post-unionization. The Senate version was introduced last year by Senators Josh Hawley of Missouri and Cory Booker of New Jersey, and it continues to gather bipartisan approval.
