California Nurses to Protest Hospital Greed, Advocate for Patient Safety
California Nurses to Rally for Health Care Reforms in Sacramento
In a significant move to address pressing issues in the health care sector, hundreds of registered nurses affiliated with the California Nurses Association (CNA) are set to assemble in Sacramento on Tuesday, May 19. The aim is to protest against perceived greed in the hospital industry and to advocate for legislative measures that enhance the safety of both patients and health care workers.
The proposed legislation encompasses a wide array of topics, including the implementation of safeguards and corporate accountability concerning artificial intelligence in health care. It also emphasizes the importance of nursing judgment over technology, seeks to close corporate tax loopholes, and aims to streamline access to workers’ compensation for nurses injured on the job. Further information on the sponsored bills and their numbers can be found here.
“As the frontline and last line of defense for people against health care corporations that just want to maximize their profit off the backs of both patients and nurses, we are here to speak truth to power and demand our elected officials pass this legislation to protect all of us Californians,” stated Sandy Reding, RN, a president of the California Nurses Association.
The nurses' march is directed towards the California Hospital Association, the primary lobbying group for the state's hospital industry. They oppose a ballot measure proposed by the association that seeks to prevent health care unions from engaging in the political process. Following the march, nurses plan to meet with legislators to share their firsthand experiences and push for the passage of the sponsored bills.
Media personnel are encouraged to attend the march, with opportunities available for conducting interviews with the nurses.
