AFT President Criticizes Trump's Address, Cites Lost Credibility

WASHINGTON

AFT President Randi Weingarten released a statement following President Donald Trump's recent televised address, which she described as farcical. In her response, Weingarten criticized Trump for failing to address the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and instead, focusing on outdated conspiracy theories surrounding the midterm elections.

Weingarten expressed concern over Trump's attempt to shift public focus away from his administration's performance by creating diversions and spreading debunked narratives. "Donald Trump is desperate and afraid. Instead of tackling the cost-of-living crisis, he’s dredging up sad, 6-year-old conspiracy theories to sow doubt in democracy and seize control over the midterm elections," she stated.

According to Weingarten, Trump's actions are an effort to evade accountability and misuse his remaining influence. She emphasized, "He doesn’t want his disastrous record to be subjected to the will of the people, so he manufactures crises and peddles conspiracies to divert the public’s attention and abuse his dwindling power."

Weingarten also reiterated that Trump was defeated in the 2020 election and underscored that the narratives he presented have been discredited by numerous courts and election officials. "Trump lost the 2020 election. Tonight’s slew of recycled, embarrassing lies, rejected by 60 courts, election officials and many of his own supporters, show he’s permanently lost credibility with the American people," she concluded.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) represents 1.8 million individuals, including pre-K through 12th-grade teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school-related personnel.
