The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has a pivotal opportunity to prioritize working people. The labor movement constitutes about 20% of the DNC's voting members, and union members supported Democratic candidates at higher rates than the general public. As a diverse group centered on organizing, we excel in mobilizing with effective messages to achieve victories.
Engaging in electoral politics, the labor movement seeks officials responsive to working-class needs, advocating for policies enhancing rights and freedoms. In this election, outreach centered on economic issues resonated, delivered by trusted union members through various channels. Increasing union representation would have changed the 2024 election outcome.
Electing new DNC officers offers a chance to reshape the Democratic Party, centering on economic and social needs of workers. The party must innovate its communication strategies with messages that resonate with working people, converting shared values into year-round actions. Now is the moment for transformation.
Labor DNC delegates will assess support for DNC leaders based on these principles:
- DNC leadership should be closely connected to working people and unions. Leaders must have experience working with labor, understand working-class values, and avoid prioritizing corporate donors.
- Focus on core economic issues. Collaborate with the labor movement to create an economic framework addressing all workers, regardless of demographics.
