In a move that has resolved an eight-day standoff, Boston Towing and Transportation Company workers, affiliated with Teamsters Local 25, have ratified a new contract. This development comes just in time for the Sail Boston Festival, where numerous ships, including the historic USS Constitution, require guidance through the harbor.

Tom Mari, the President of Local 25, praised the unity and resilience of the workers during the challenging period, saying, “I’m proud of our Boston Tow members, who stuck together through last week’s heat wave and a long holiday weekend, holding down the picket line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” He emphasized, “There was never a doubt in my mind we would win, because Local 25 is always united. This victory is a testament to the quiet, unstoppable power of sticking together and refusing to settle for less.”

The new contract promises enhancements in wages and working conditions, alongside fully employer-paid health insurance for union members. The agreement averts potential disruptions at the maritime festival where over 50 large vessels are expected to navigate Boston Harbor.

Teamsters Local 25, which is the largest union in the greater Boston area with a membership of 13,000, falls under the Teamsters Joint Council 10 umbrella. This council encompasses Teamsters across New England. More details can be found on their official website, teamsterslocal25.com.
