Pennsylvania invests $147.5M in Eurofins expansion, creating 250 jobs
Major Investment Boosts Lancaster’s Life Sciences Sector
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is channeling more than $2.1 million into the expansion of a life sciences company in Lancaster.
Under the guidance of Governor Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania’s economy is flourishing and stands out as the only state in the Northeast experiencing growth.
Since his tenure began, Governor Shapiro’s administration has secured over $32.5 billion in private investments, resulting in the creation of more than 18,000 jobs and fostering economic expansion throughout the state.


Upper Leacock Township, PA – Governor Josh Shapiro and DCED Secretary Rick Siger announced that the Commonwealth has achieved a $147.5 million private investment to expand Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories' operations. This expansion is set to create 250 new jobs and retain 3,080 existing positions over the next three years, enhancing the region's pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.
The company intends to establish a 300,000-square-foot laboratory and office facility at its current campus in Upper Leacock Township. Upon completion, this site will be the largest within Eurofins Scientific’s global network of over 950 laboratories.
Governor Shapiro stated, “Pennsylvania is a leader in life science innovation, and major investments like this from Eurofins are supporting the continued growth of this critically important industry.” He emphasized the state's strategic advantages, including a skilled workforce and strong research infrastructure, which contribute to its economic success.
Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories has been offered a funding package from the DCED, including a $1.8 million Pennsylvania First grant and a $375,000 WEDnetPA grant. Additionally, the company is encouraged to apply for tax incentives through the QMIRD program.
Secretary Siger highlighted, “Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories is one of Lancaster County’s largest employers, and we’re proud to support their continued success here in Pennsylvania.” He noted that life sciences is a focal point of the state’s Economic Development Strategy.
The Shapiro Administration is actively promoting the growth of Pennsylvania's biotech ecosystem. Companies like Apozeal Pharmaceuticals, B. Braun, and GSK have also announced expansions in Pennsylvania, bringing new jobs and research investments to the area.
Eurofins Scientific employs over 65,000 people across 60 countries and maintains the largest network of harmonized bio/pharmaceutical GMP testing laboratories worldwide. Neal Salerno, Senior Vice President of Eurofins BioPharma Product Testing, remarked on the expansion, stating, “We are proud to expand our capacity and services for our global clients while offering outstanding career opportunities.”
Ezra Rothman, President of EDC Lancaster County, commented on Eurofins’ growth, noting the collaborative efforts between local businesses and educational institutions to foster talent and innovation.
