Amazon Workers at Major Warehouse Form Union Following Midnight Protest

In a significant development, Amazon employees at the DJT6 facility in Riverside, California, have joined forces with Teamsters Local 1932 to establish a union. This facility is a crucial part of Amazon's vast delivery network, making the unionization a notable event.

Earlier this week, during the heightened activity of the holiday season, workers launched their unionization campaign by conducting a midnight walkout. They are pressing Amazon for improved wages and a voice in a company that has grown immensely wealthy through their efforts.

"Workers at DJT6, one of Amazon’s most important facilities, have been on the front end of Amazon’s abuse for years," stated Randy Korgan, Director of the Teamsters Amazon Division and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 1932. "It is a crime that Amazon makes billions off their backs while they can’t even afford to buy a home near the warehouse. DJT6 workers showed tremendous courage in walking off the job to join the fight and demand their fair share."

Among the demands, employees want Amazon to uphold industry-standard wages, provide adequate health care benefits, and ensure safer working environments. Employees have noted that workplace injuries are often overlooked, with some reporting threats regarding job security if they take necessary leave due to these injuries.

Samuel Padilla, one of the Amazon DJT6 workers, expressed, "For too long, Amazon has profited off our labor yet denied our rights as workers. Now, we are coming to take what we have rightfully earned. Amazon may not listen to any one individual worker, but we will force them to listen to us together as Teamsters."

The Riverside facility joins other Amazon locations in Southern California and around the nation in aligning with the Teamsters. This includes drivers in Queens, New York and CDL drivers in Kentucky. Across the country, approximately 10,000 Amazon workers are uniting under the Teamsters banner, urging the corporation to cease anti-union tactics.

Established in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents over 1.3 million members across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. More information is available at Teamster.org. Follow their updates on X @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
