In a landmark move, employees at Rivers Casino located in Portsmouth, Virginia, who are members of Teamsters Local 822, have overwhelmingly approved a collective bargaining agreement. This development marks the first time casino workers in Virginia have successfully negotiated a union contract, setting a new standard in the state’s burgeoning gaming sector.

James Wright, President of Local 822, hailed the agreement as a pivotal moment, stating, “This is history in the making. For the first time, Virginia gaming workers have a legally binding union contract that delivers guaranteed raises, strong benefits, and just cause protections. This agreement proves that when workers stand together, they can transform their industry.”

The newly ratified contract promises a 15.95 percent salary increase throughout its duration, along with employer-funded health insurance, protection against at-will terminations, and more paid leave. This comprehensive agreement is a testament to the workers' solidarity and determination.

Natasha O’Guinn, a slot attendant at Rivers Casino and a proud member of Local 822, expressed her satisfaction, saying, “This contract means stability for me and my family. I know my job is protected, my health care is covered, and my wages and tips together give me the security to plan for the future. We finally have a voice and a fair contract that respects what we do every day.”

Teamsters Local 822 represents a diverse group of over 3,000 workers in the Tidewater area, spanning various industries. For more details, visit www.teamsters822.com.
