Mark DePaoli elected as new UAW Region 1A Director, succeeding Dickerson
New Leadership in UAW Region 1A
Detroit—A recent election in UAW Region 1A has concluded with the appointment of Mark DePaoli as the new Regional Director. This election was necessitated by the promotion of Laura Dickerson to UAW Vice President.
Delegates gathered at a special regional convention to elect DePaoli, who previously held the position of 1st Vice President at UAW Local 600, to lead the region that encompasses numerous active and retired UAW members in southeast Michigan.
UAW President Shawn Fain remarked, “Laura Dickerson has been a dedicated leader and now brings her experience and commitment to our members in the Ford Department.” He added a warm welcome to Mark DePaoli, expressing confidence in his leadership for Region 1A.
Expressing his gratitude, DePaoli stated, “I am honored to serve the members of Region 1A and to continue building our union’s strength in the workplace and our communities. Together, we will stand up for justice, fairness, and a better future for the working class.”
The UAW has adopted a regular direct election process for its International Executive Board. However, regional-level mid-term vacancies, such as this one, are filled through a delegate vote, in accordance with the UAW constitution.
