UAW Endorses JB Pritzker for Illinois Governor, Supports Workers' Rights
UAW Endorses JB Pritzker for Governor in Illinois
The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has thrown its support behind JB Pritzker in the Illinois gubernatorial race. This endorsement reflects a commitment to support a leader who advocates for the rights of nearly 44,000 UAW members, both active and retired, throughout the state.
Governor Pritzker is recognized for his ongoing efforts to support labor rights and challenge corporate dominance. Notably, he has been a vocal proponent of the Illinois Workers’ Rights Amendment and the Worker Freedom of Speech Act, both pivotal in safeguarding workers' interests.
With the UAW Illinois CAP (Community Action Program) Council's official endorsement, the union plans to rally the working-class electorate in Illinois to back Pritzker's bid for reelection.
In recent labor disputes, such as the UAW’s Stand Up Strike and the efforts to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant, Pritzker has been an ally. He has actively advocated for Stellantis to fulfill its pledge to reinstate high-quality union jobs in Belvidere.
“Governor Pritzker understands that when we fight for good union jobs, we’re fighting for working people in every community,” stated UAW Region 4 Director Brandon Campbell. “Belvidere showed what’s possible when workers, our communities, and leaders stand together. Governor Pritzker has been there with us in that fight, and he’s continued to stand up for working people.”
