UAW Local 2093 Strikes Deal with American Axle for Higher Wages by 2030

UAW Local 2093 Reaches Historic Tentative Agreement with American Axle

After a striking effort initiated at midnight on June 1, the members of UAW Local 2093 at American Axle/Dauch Corporation have successfully negotiated a tentative agreement with the company. This deal promises a significant wage increase reaching $30 per hour by 2030, marking a substantial 36% rise over four years. The agreement stands as a landmark achievement for workers at this Tier 1 parts supplier to General Motors.

"Tonight, after 10 days on strike, I am proud to announce that UAW Local 2093 has reached a tentative agreement at American Axle," stated UAW President Shawn Fain. "And tonight, after 18 years of sacrifice, these workers are finally winning back a big chunk of what was taken from them."

Back in 2008, the workforce at American Axle made critical sacrifices to prevent the facility's closure during the Great Recession. Many veteran workers, who once earned up to $29 an hour, saw their pay reduced to $14.50. Those UAW members hired before May 31, 2012, who experienced these cuts, will receive an immediate $8 per hour wage increase upon ratification of the new contract. Workers have also achieved other essential objectives, including more paid days off, without conceding on their existing healthcare costs, despite the company’s initial resistance.

"Not only did they take care of the legacy people that were here and made the tough decisions back in 2008 to keep the place open, they took care of the people working there today," UAW Region 1D Director Steve Dawes commented. "They also took care of all the future generations that will come to work here in Three Rivers, Michigan, at American Axle."

In the days ahead, approximately 1,000 UAW Local 2093 members will thoroughly assess the tentative agreement before casting their votes on its ratification.

"This contract will change lives in Three Rivers and across southwest Michigan," declared Josh Jager, UAW Local 2093 bargaining chair. "I am damn proud of this agreement, and I am damn proud to be a member of UAW Local 2093."

During the ten-day strike, UAW Local 2093 garnered notable attention and backing from local community and political figures statewide. Prominent supporters included Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, State Senator Sean McCann, Three Rivers Mayor Angel Johnston, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, and Michigan Attorney General candidate Eli Savit, among others.
