The Facts -

  • The UCLA Administration is accused of violent reaction towards protesting students and workers in support of Palestine, leading to arrests and hospitalizations.
  • UAW 4811 members are preparing to file Unfair Labor Practice charges over UC's actions and are considering a strike authorization vote.
  • UAW members are calling for a permanent ceasefire and justice for Palestine, prepared to take necessary actions for peace and justice in Gaza.

In the past two days, the UCLA Administration has approved harsh measures against peacefully protesting students and workers, advocating for justice for Palestine. The Administration's response has led to numerous hospitalizations and arrests, including UAW 4811 members, and a militarized police presence on campus. As a former UCLA Teaching Assistant and Tutor, I strongly condemn these actions for their discriminatory nature against political viewpoints.

Members of UAW 4811 have promptly responded, joining thousands of UCLA students and workers in a mobilization for free speech, campus safety, and justice for Palestine. Currently, the members are gearing up to file Unfair Labor Practice charges against UC’s actions, paving the way for a strike authorization vote. This action follows closely on the heels of a similar move by UAW 872 members at the University of Southern California.

As UAW 4811 members proceed towards a strike authorization vote, be assured of solid support from your UAW family across the West Coast and the continent. This support underscores your fight for rights and amplifies voices affected by Gaza's war.

Our union stands firmly for a permanent ceasefire and justice for Palestine. Together with my fellow IEB and UAW members nationwide, I am proud to escalate the call for a ceasefire, and an end to the destruction and suffering in Palestine.

UAW members are ready to work tirelessly for justice for working people worldwide and a lasting ceasefire in Palestine. I am deeply proud of the efforts made by members across Region 6 over the past months to advocate for peace and justice in Gaza, and to demand action from employers and elected representatives. Echoing Brother Shawn Fain’s words: if the outcry is too much, stop supporting this war.
