UAW to Rally in Detroit Urging Stellantis to Honor Union Commitments

UAW Leaders Challenge Stellantis to Honor 2023 Contract Commitments

DETROIT, MI — UAW President Shawn Fain is set to lead a rally at UAW Local 51 with the support of members from the Detroit Assembly Complex-Mack. The rally aims to urge Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares to adhere to the union's contract terms and fulfill their obligations under the "Keep The Promise" initiative. According to the UAW, Stellantis is attempting to renegotiate the commitments made in their 2023 contract, much to the dismay of autoworkers.

Event Details:

WHO: UAW President Shawn Fain, UAW Region 1 Director LaShawn English

WHAT: Rally to Make Stellantis Keep the Promise

WHERE: UAW Local 51, 11000 E. Jefferson, Detroit, MI 48214

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 3:00 pm

The spotlight will be on Stellantis' reluctance to implement the $19 billion in product and investment agreements from the 2023 Stand Up Strike. Key promises, such as the reopening of the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois and the construction of the next generation Dodge Durango in Detroit, are reportedly at risk.

The union, representing tens of thousands of Stellantis employees, has lodged grievances against the automaker for not fulfilling these commitments. If the grievance process, as outlined in the national contract, does not resolve the issue, the UAW may consider initiating a strike.

Amidst the tension, Stellantis has countered with legal actions and robocalls, efforts perceived by the union as attempts to stifle their movement. Already, three UAW locals have approved strike authorization, with others likely to follow. Should Stellantis continue to disregard the agreement, a strike could be on the horizon within weeks.

UAW President Shawn Fain is encouraging Stellantis workers to assert their rights by visiting ShitcanCarlos.com and endorsing a strike authorization pledge.
