UAW Condemns Trump Administration's Actions Against Campus Workers

The United Auto Workers (UAW), representing 100,000 individuals employed in higher education across institutions such as Columbia University, has expressed deep concern over recent federal actions. This diverse group includes campus staff, student workers, faculty members, research assistants, and postdoctoral fellows.

UAW's longstanding dedication to protest, international peace advocacy, and universal education has driven its strong denunciation of recent measures by the Trump administration. These measures encompass the reduction of federal research funding, as well as actions to detain, intimidate, and deport students, alongside limitations on First Amendment rights of its members.

Reflecting on past statements during previous U.S. administrations, the UAW reiterated, “The UAW will never support the mass arrest or intimidation of those exercising their right to protest, strike, or speak out against injustice.”

Concerns are mounting within the UAW, as these federal decisions threaten to disrupt essential research, undermine academic endeavors, and jeopardize the livelihoods of campus workers, including a significant number of their own members.
