(WASHINGTON) – 133 members of the U.S. House signed a letter urging Amazon CEO Andy Jassy to address alleged violations of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). Lawmakers demand answers about labor practices impacting Amazon Teamsters.
“Amazon operates as a crime syndicate,” said Teamsters President Sean M. O’Brien. “Elected officials supporting us is vital to stopping its power abuses. Amazon workers suffering nationwide are fighting back and unionizing; Jeff Bezos and Andy Jassy can't evade responsibility much longer.”
Initiated by the House Labor Caucus, the letter highlights Amazon’s illegal actions, including labor violations during organizing drives by Amazon Labor Union-International Brotherhood of Teamsters (ALU-IBT) Local 1, retaliation against Amazon drivers in Palmdale, Calif., and illegal anti-union remarks by Jassy.
“Constituents fear using their rights due to employer reprisal,” representatives told Jassy. “Amazon's anti-union actions intensify these fears. According to the NLRA, Amazon should stop illegal interference and allow workers union choice.”
The delegation represents over 98 million citizens and demands Jassy answer key questions about Amazon's commitment to lawful bargaining with Teamsters and aligning actions with statements.
Since 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has represented 1.3 million workers in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Visit Teamster.org for more info. Follow us on Twitter @Teamsters and “like” us on Facebook.com/teamsters.
