Nurses at Lodi Memorial to Picket Over Staffing and Retention Issues

Adventist Health Lodi Memorial Nurses to Highlight Staffing Issues with Picket

On Wednesday, October 23, registered nurses at Adventist Health Lodi Memorial in Lodi, California, plan to hold an informational picket. The action aims to spotlight concerns over management's handling of staff nurse recruitment and retention, an issue that nurses argue directly affects patient care. This was announced by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU).

The nurses assert that the administration at Lodi has not adequately addressed their concerns, leading to significant staff departures since January 2024. This has exacerbated the challenges faced by remaining nurses in maintaining safe and effective patient care. The RNs are urging the hospital's administration to invest in their workforce, particularly those who have been steadfast in serving the community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

In March 2023, the nurses voted to join the California Nurses Association and have been negotiating their first contract since July 2023.

"Patients are at the center of our shared mission," stated Stephanie Moraes, RN, serving in the medical-surgical unit at Lodi Memorial. "Nurses are taking a stand and demanding that Lodi administration stop putting profits over the lives and safety of our patients and community."
