Strikers Organize 8-Mile Walk in Los Angeles for Fair Contract

Strikers Organize 8-Mile Walk to Advocate for Fair Contracts

This Saturday, a significant event organized by the strikers is set to take place, as they plan an 8-mile walk aimed at advocating for a fair contract. Over 40 workers have committed to joining this demonstration, highlighting their commitment to the cause. The walk will kick off shortly after 8 a.m. at the Eagle Rock Recreation Center, located at 1100 Eagle Vista Drive, Los Angeles. Participants will make their way to Barnsdall Art Park, which is adjacent to Kaiser’s Los Angeles Medical Center, situated at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. The walk is expected to last a little over three hours, and those participating are advised to bring ample water.

Resumption of Contract Negotiations

Negotiations with Kaiser and mediators are set to resume on Tuesday. There is hope among the parties involved that these discussions will make headway toward reaching a fair settlement.

Efforts to Raise Awareness Among Kaiser Board Members

Strikers have continued their efforts to raise awareness by distributing leaflets to members of Kaiser Permanente’s Board of Directors. These board members earn in excess of $200,000 annually, yet, according to the strikers, have not exerted sufficient pressure on Kaiser to achieve a fair contract or address issues concerning behavioral health. On Wednesday, strikers distributed leaflets in the Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood, home to Kaiser Board Member David Hoffmeister. This week also saw strikers leafleting at Rothy’s, a shoe store operated by Kaiser Board Member Jenny Ming, whose previous business faced criticism for alleged “sweatshop practices.”
