PRO Act Reintroduced: Labor Unions Rally for Worker Rights

Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2025 – In a significant move for labor rights, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) has voiced strong support for the reintroduction of the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act. This legislation promises substantial changes for workers across the United States.

The PRO Act aims to address long-standing issues in the workforce by ensuring that employees can organize and advocate for their rights without facing retaliation. "The recent reintroduction of the PRO Act marks a critical moment for our members and working people across this country," stated NABTU President Sean McGarvey. The Act seeks to rectify the imbalance caused by corporate practices that have historically suppressed wages and undermined worker rights.

The proposed legislation is designed to dismantle outdated 'right-to-work' laws and put an end to employer intimidation. Moreover, it seeks to address the issue of worker misclassification by closing existing loopholes and imposing tougher penalties on companies violating labor laws. McGarvey emphasized, “This legislation will finally level the playing field—ensuring every worker has the protected right to organize, collectively bargain, and advocate for fair wages, quality benefits, and safer working conditions without fear of retaliation.”

With the reintroduction of the PRO Act, Congress faces a pivotal decision: to support working families or to perpetuate a system that prioritizes corporate profits. McGarvey urges legislative action, declaring, “The time to act is now. Congress has a choice: stand with working families or continue enabling a rigged system that puts corporate profits over people. Working people built this country—it’s time Congress ensures they get the respect, dignity, and protections they deserve.”
