Kaiser Workers Picket with Community Support and Upcoming Rally
Community Support Shines at Recent Picket Lines
This week, picket lines witnessed heartwarming gestures of support from both individuals and organizations. In Lancaster, a young girl, aged seven, distributed artificial roses to workers, each adorned with a heart-shaped tag bearing the message, “You will win.” She also handed out buttons with the slogan, “United we bargain; Divided we beg.” Several workers carried these roses into their Wednesday bargaining session.
The National Association of Social Workers showed solidarity today by joining the picket line outside LAMC. They conducted an interview with one of the members for their national Instagram account and committed to featuring another member in the future. The association also generously offered to provide lunch for everyone, but the meal arrangements were already in place.
Upcoming Rally and Recent Bargaining Developments
Save The Date: A major rally is being organized outside LAMC on Friday, February 7, coinciding with the day after the final scheduled bargaining session. The picket line will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the rally taking place between noon and 1 p.m. Further details will be shared soon.
ICYMI: Negotiations showed signs of cordiality on Thursday. While Kaiser has made some concessions on various points, significant disparities remain regarding pensions, salaries, and patient management time. For a comprehensive update, refer to the full bargaining report released this morning. The next bargaining session is slated for Wednesday, January 29.
- NPR’s All Things Considered recently aired a segment linking the strike to the rising demand for behavioral healthcare triggered by the LA Wildfires. The full story can be accessed here.
- Gena Porter and Jared Garcia, both part of the bargaining committee, appeared on the podcast My Therapist is Out. The episode is available for listening here.
