Detroit Axle workers vote 99% to authorize strike against Daimler Truck
Workers at Detroit Axle Demonstrate Strong Support for Potential Strike
DETROIT, MI — Over 400 employees at Daimler Truck North America's Detroit Axle facility have shown robust support for a possible strike, with 99% voting in favor of the move on January 15th. This decision reflects the workers' frustration and desire for more substantial compensation and benefits.
“This overwhelming vote shows we are no longer content with the crumbs from Daimler’s pie,” stated Zachary Harper, a committeeperson at Detroit Axle. “This vote makes it plain: we are united – and when we fight together, we win. Tick Tock.”
The vote comes on the heels of significant achievements by United Auto Workers (UAW) members at other Daimler Truck locations. In 2024, workers at Freightliner Trucks, Western Star Trucks, and Thomas Built Buses secured notable improvements, such as salary increases exceeding 25% and the introduction of profit-sharing and Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLA) for the first time at Daimler.
“Since 2020, Daimler has seen over $17 billion in profits”, remarked Laura Dickerson, UAW Region 1A Director. “Daimler can afford to provide UAW members at Detroit Axle what every worker deserves: pay that keeps up with inflation, a safe workplace, and a secure retirement. If it takes a fight to win that, our members are ready.”
The developments at Detroit Axle are part of a broader movement among UAW members advocating against corporate practices perceived as greedy. Presently, over 4,000 members at Volkswagen are striving for their first contract in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
