AFT President urges patience in Pennsylvania Senate race vote count
Statement Issued on Pennsylvania Senate Race Amidst Ballot Counting
WASHINGTON—Amid ongoing ballot counting in the Pennsylvania Senate race, AFT President Randi Weingarten has responded to the pressure from David McCormick on media outlets to declare the race in his favor, despite the presence of numerous uncounted ballots.
Weingarten emphasized the importance of voters in the electoral process, stating, “Voters decide elections, not candidates or the news media. With more than 100,000 outstanding ballots still to be counted, decision desks need to take a deep breath and refuse to bow to David McCormick’s pressure to prematurely call the Pennsylvania Senate race in his favor.”
She further highlighted the duty of election workers, mentioning, “The voters have done their job; now, election workers should be given the time to do theirs. The will of the people will decide the winner, not partisan speculation, and we can only know the true outcome if we count and certify every vote safely and accurately.”
