AFL-CIO President Reacts to Supreme Court's Decision on Reproductive Healthcare

Liz Shuler, President of AFL-CIO, has issued a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the case Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. The court's decision recognized the significance of reproductive healthcare to the economic security of working women, a stance which has been applauded by AFL-CIO.

By upholding the FDA’s drug approval authority in the case, the Supreme Court thwarted efforts to limit access to mifepristone, a drug integral to reproductive healthcare. The ruling stands against attempts to undermine women's autonomy in health decisions and safeguards FDA's role in making scientifically-grounded decisions.

The Supreme Court aptly determined that ideologically motivated plaintiffs should not interfere with the FDA’s work or obstruct women’s access to healthcare. AFL-CIO firmly believes in quality health care for all women, inclusive of contraception and reproductive services, irrespective of their work or residential location. The Union views access to prescription medication and medical services as a pivotal collective bargaining concern and is dedicated to advocating for the best possible deal for all working individuals.
