10K+ Autoworkers Join Union Across 13 Non-Union Automaker Firms - UAW

TL/DR -

Over 10,000 workers from 13 non-unionised auto companies have signed union cards with the United Auto Workers (UAW), a move aimed at securing better wages, benefits, and rights. This comes less than three months after UAW members sanctioned record contracts at the Big Three automakers - Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis. Workers from Volkswagen and Mercedes have gone public with their campaigns, with unionisation drives also starting at over two dozen other facilities, including Honda, Volvo, Tesla, Nissan, BMW, Mazda, Subaru, Rivian, Lucid, Toyota, and Hyundai.

Over 10,000 Autoworkers Sign Union Cards with UAW

More than 10,000 autoworkers from 13 non-union companies have joined the UAW, building momentum for improved wages, benefits and job rights across the auto industry. This comes shortly after UAW members ratified record contracts at the Big Three within 90 days.

"Our Stand Up movement is making waves among American autoworkers, not just those at the Big Three," UAW President Shawn Fain expressed. "These workers are standing up for their rights, families, and communities, and our union is committed to support them."

Following UAW's Stand Up Strike victory at the Big Three automakers (Ford, GM, Stellantis), thousands of non-union autoworkers started their own unionization efforts with UAW throughout the non-union auto industry.

Within two months, workers at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mercedes in Vance, Ala., announced their campaigns publicly, with a majority of workers at both plants already signed up. More than two dozen other facilities have started organizing efforts, inspired by the Big Three victory and the autoworkers' public statements.
