Members of Teamsters Local 104 at Republic Services in Phoenix, Arizona, have ratified their first collective bargaining agreements, marking a significant victory against anti-union tactics. The four-year contracts include a 19 percent wage increase, improved training pay, enhanced hourly rates for vacation, sick leave, and holidays, and robust protection for safety and seniority rights.

"In the face of a fierce anti-union campaign, these workers showed remarkable strength and unity," said Josh Graves, Vice President of Local 104. "Their success is a testament to their resilience and the unwavering commitment of our negotiation committee."

The negotiation process was marred by a hostile union-busting campaign by Republic Services, a waste management giant valued at $58.2 billion. The company faced numerous unfair labor practice charges, reflecting its relentless attempts to hinder workers from securing a union contract.

"It is shameful that a company with such wealth resists granting its workers fair rights and job security," said Chuck Stiles, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. Nationwide, the Teamsters represent over 7,000 workers at Republic Services.

Keith Purcell, a driver at Republic Services East Yard, said, "Despite intimidation attempts, we stayed united and secured a strong first contract." Mark McCall, a driver at Republic Services' North Yard, added, "After persevering for a year, we won a great contract that increases wages, improves safety, and protects our rights."

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million workers in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Follow them on Twitter @Teamsters and like them on Facebook.
