Almost 9,000 UAW Workers at Ford's Kentucky Plant to Strike Over Local Issues

TL/DR -

Nearly 9,000 UAW autoworkers at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant are expected to strike on February 23rd if local contract issues are not resolved. Core issues in the negotiations include health and safety in the plant, including minimum in-plant nurse staffing levels and ergonomic issues, and Ford's attempts to erode the skilled trades at the plant. The strike threat comes despite UAW members at the plant having played a leading role in securing raises and contract improvements in national negotiations last year.

Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant Autoworkers Set for Strike Over Contract Issues

Louisville, KY – Approximately 9,000 autoworkers from UAW Local 862 at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant are set to strike on February 23rd if local contract issues remain unresolved.

UAW Vice President Chuck Browning has requested a strike authorization after a failure to reach a local agreement with Ford Motor Company, setting a strike deadline for 12:01 a.m., Friday, February 23rd.

The local negotiations at Kentucky Truck Plant revolve around in-plant health and safety, including adequate nurse staffing levels and ergonomic issues. Ford's efforts to undermine the skilled trades at the plant also constitute a major concern.

These autoworkers, along with 150,000 others at GM, Ford, and Stellantis, secured historic wage increases and contract enhancements in national negations last year. The UAW members at Kentucky Truck played an instrumental role in the successful Stand Up Strike.

Aside from UAW’s national contracts, local agreements addressing plant-specific issues are also negotiated at each facility. Currently, 19 other local agreements across Ford and several at GM and Stellantis remain open.
