Global Initiative Aims to Secure AI Supply Chains
Pax Silica, an ambitious U.S.-driven initiative, is redefining international collaboration by focusing on securing the supply chains crucial for artificial intelligence (AI) and other cutting-edge technologies. By fostering cooperation among nations, the initiative aims to strengthen sectors like critical minerals, energy, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and AI infrastructure. Through these efforts, Pax Silica seeks to minimize reliance on fragile supply chains, enhance trusted production capacities, and stimulate investment and commercial partnerships among involved nations.
Initially launched in December 2025, seven countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, and Israel, endorsed the Pax Silica Declaration. The declaration provides a framework to fortify critical supply chains and synchronize economic-security activities. By October 2026, this coalition had grown to include 26 Declaration signatories. Additionally, a separate AI Opportunity Statement was endorsed by 35 countries, focusing on broadening AI access, fostering its development and deployment, and enhancing the digital infrastructure associated with AI.
Countries participating in Pax Silica are creating new agreements and investment ventures, expanding the initiative’s scope. These efforts now encompass not only the essential resources for AI but also the industrial capacity, infrastructure, and technological advancements necessary for large-scale AI development and deployment.
