(CONCORD, N.H.) – In a significant win for labor rights, Teamsters Local 633 has successfully prevented the advancement of House Bill 238 (HB 238) in New Hampshire. The state’s House of Representatives voted to postpone the bill indefinitely, a move that demands a two-thirds majority for any future reconsideration. The bill, seen as an attempt to introduce "right to work" legislation, could have undermined union strength and reduced workers' wages.

“Lawmakers recognized this effort for what it was: an attempt by out-of-state billionaires to hijack our legislative process so they could force a harmful anti-worker agenda down our throats,” stated Jeff Padellaro, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 633. “This was nothing but an attack on working families and we are proud to have stopped it.”

From the introduction of HB 238, Teamsters spearheaded a coalition of unions to oppose the bill vigorously. Their collective efforts highlighted the potential risks to wages, health benefits, and workplace safety. Scott Gove, a Teamsters member with UPS Northfield and Local 633 Recording Secretary, emphasized the necessity of protecting negotiated worker benefits. “We don’t want our wages, health care, or workplace safety to decay, so we will continue to tell any outside group that’s pushing ‘right to work’ to get the hell out of our state for as long as we have to.”

Teamsters Local 633, chartered in 1934, stands as a representative body for numerous workers across New Hampshire. Further details about their activities and initiatives can be found at teamsters633.com.
