In a significant move towards strengthened labor representation, almost 800 Airline Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) at Republic Airways have voted decisively to affiliate with the Teamsters Union. This addition expands the Teamsters' representation within Republic Airways, where pilots and flight attendants are already members.
Dave Saucedo, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division, remarked, “Republic Airways AMTs are tired of being overlooked and are ready to stand together for the pay, protections, and respect they’ve earned. These workers do critical, highly skilled work every single day to keep planes operating safely. By joining the Teamsters, they now have the power to hold Republic accountable and fight for a better future.”
The newly unionized 777 AMTs are set to negotiate their first contract, seeking superior wages, robust benefits, and enhanced workplace safety measures to elevate conditions at Republic Airways.
Highlighting a trend towards increased unionization in the aviation sector, Saucedo added, “This victory shows the growing momentum for Teamsters representation throughout the airline industry. The Teamsters are committed to helping these workers win a first contract that reflects the critical role they play at Republic Airways and airports across the U.S.”
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, currently represents over 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. More details are available at Teamster.org. Updates can also be found on social media through their X account and Facebook page.
