Local 79 Warehouse Workers Ratify Landmark Agreement with Teamsters

Warehouse Workers in Lakeland, Fla. Celebrate Landmark Contract

In Lakeland, Florida, more than 270 warehouse employees at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits have successfully ratified a pivotal first collective bargaining agreement through their representation by Teamsters Local 79.

John Sholtes, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 79, highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating, “This is a classic example of how the Teamsters can produce landslide organizing victories, and more importantly, industry-leading labor contracts. We are proud of how our fellow Teamsters have fought to improve their jobs and to help change their lives for the better.”

Jeff Padellaro, the Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, emphasized the power of unity in the contract negotiations, noting, “This contract shows what can be achieved when workers come together with a collective union voice. Our newest Teamsters members fought hard and have a contract they can be proud of.”

The ratified four-year agreement introduces substantial enhancements, such as increased wages, comprehensive medical benefits, seniority rights, a pension, and additional paid leave.

Curtis McCoy, a member of Local 79, expressed the workers' motivation, saying, “We became Teamsters so that we can fight for better wages and a better life for our families. We help make Southern Glazer’s what it is, and now we have a contract that gives us what we deserve.”
