Coushatta Tribe Receives $1.3M Federal Funding for Infrastructure and Road Upgrades

The Louisiana's Coushatta Tribe is set to receive over $1.3 million in federal funding for infrastructure and road safety upgrades for its reservation north of Elton. This funding, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, was announced by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy.

These funds, as stated by Coushatta Tribal Council Vice-Chair Crystal Williams, will greatly improve the community's road safety and have been eagerly awaited.

CC Bel Road, a significant route through the Coushatta Reservation, serves numerous residences and businesses, including the tribal admin offices and emergency services.

With this funding, the S-curve realignment of CC Bel Road will address safety concerns arising from narrow road widths, steep drainage ditches, inadequate signage, and lack of striping.

Sen. Cassidy expressed that enhancing road safety improves the living conditions for families depending on these routes. The infrastructure law will provide the tools to ensure road safety in Louisiana tribal communities.

In the previous year, Cassidy secured $11.4 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for the enhancement and extension of nearly 2.5 miles of CC Bel Road.
