U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez is certain that the $2.3 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, signed by President Biden, will revolutionize the U.S. Gonzalez supported the law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act or HR 3684, which provides funding for infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, rail, public transit, broadband, ports, airports, and power grids.

In addition to the above, the law also allocates money towards coastal resiliency, ecosystem restoration, weatherization, clean school buses and ferries, electric vehicle charging, pollution cleanup, and Western Water Infrastructure.

At the recent groundbreaking ceremony for a new air traffic control tower at Valley International Airport, Gonzalez lauded the transformative potential of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. He noted that the $2.3 trillion investment will revamp American airports, bridges, reservoirs, highways, and the much-needed drainage systems in certain regions.

On Valley International Airport (VIA), Gonzalez acknowledged its crucial role in connecting the Rio Grande Valley with the rest of the nation and strengthening its international ties. Last year, the airport serviced over a million passengers and over 5,000 outbound flights. The new traffic control tower signifies a significant milestone in enhancing VIA’s ability to manage air traffic efficiently while ensuring ADA compliance and structural soundness.

Senators Cornyn and Cruz Support Valley International Airport

Even though U.S. Sens. John Corny and Ted Cruz opposed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, both senators support funding for VIA. Cornyn and Cruz, unable to attend the groundbreaking ceremony, sent letters and video messages of support, respectively.

Cornyn commended the city of Harlingen and VIA on the groundbreaking of the new Air Traffic Control Tower, which will enhance safety and efficiency for passengers. Similarly, Cruz stressed his commitment to modernizing the aviation industry to improve safety and efficiency of air travel in Harlingen and beyond. Both senators congratulated the local officials and VIA team on their efforts in securing funding for this critical project.
